Pelicans' Hunter Dickinson: Joining Pels on two-way deal
Dickinson agreed to a two-way contract with the Pelicans on Thursday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
After a prolific five-year college career with Kansas, Dickinson wasn't selected in the 2025 NBA Draft, but he quickly found a home in New Orleans. The 24-year-old center will add depth to the Pelicans frontcourt but is expected to see the vast majority of his playing time as a rookie with New Orleans' G League affiliate, the Birmingham Squadron.

Pelicans' Micah Peavy: Lands with New Orleans
Peavy was selected by the Pelicans with the No. 40 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
The Wizards traded this pick to the Pelicans, who used it to select Peavy, a versatile defender out of Georgetown with strong two-way potential. He enjoyed a breakout campaign as a fifth-year senior, averaging 17.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.3 steals while shooting 48.1 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from three over 32 games. While there are some concerns that his perimeter shooting may regress to his career average of 32.2 percent across 159 games, Peavy's ability to guard multiple positions makes him an intriguing addition to New Orleans' roster.

Pelicans' Derik Queen: Goes No. 13 to NOP
Queen was selected by the Pelicans with the No. 13 overall pick in the NBA Draft.
Atlanta made the pick for New Orleans, so Queen is headed to the Pelicans as part of a trade that sent the 23rd pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and a 2026 first-rounder to the Hawks, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Queen is a bit undersized for the center position, standing at 6-foot-9, but he's a skilled passer and an excellent finisher with both hands. The Maryland product was comfortable putting the ball on the floor and excelled as a rebounder. His jumper is a big question mark, as he shot just 20 percent from three at the college level. Additionally, Queen could be targeted in pick-and-roll actions early in his NBA career, considering his lack of size and somewhat sluggish movement. He'll likely begin his professional career as Yves Missi's (ankle) backup, but there isn't much more competition at center outside of Missi.

Pelicans' Jeremiah Fears: Selected No. 7 by Pelicans
Fears was selected by the Pelicans with the No. 7 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Fears is a high-upside point guard, but he comes with a bit of risk. The 6-foot-3 Oklahoma product was one of the best ball-handlers in the SEC as a true freshman and averaged 17.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He possesses an excellent handle and has a quick first step. However, he's a bit undersized at 180 pounds and struggled to find his shot, shooting 28.4 percent from beyond the arc. Because of his slight frame and scoring inefficiency, Fears may be a couple of years away from making a consistent positive impact at the NBA level. With Jordan Poole and Jose Alvarado on the roster, the Pelicans won't need to start Fears on Opening Night, but Dejounte Murray's (Achilles) injury could force Fears into a rotational role right away.

Pelicans' Saddiq Bey: Traded to New Orleans
The Wizards traded Bey (knee), Jordan Poole (elbow) and the No. 40 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft to the Pelicans on Tuesday in exchange for CJ McCollum (foot), Kelly Olynyk (heel) and a future second-round pick, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.
Bey missed the entire 2024-25 season with a torn left ACL, though he's expected to make a full recovery ahead of Opening Night in 2025-26. Bey, who turned 26 back in April, could carve out a decent rotation role on the wings in New Orleans. The wing holds career averages of 14.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 0.8 steals while shooting 35.2 percent from beyond the arc.

Pelicans' Jordan Poole: Traded to New Orleans
The Wizards traded Poole (elbow), Saddiq Bey (knee) and the No. 40 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft on Tuesday to the Pelicans in exchange for CJ McCollum (foot), Kelly Olynyk (heel) and a future second-round pick, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
After two seasons in Washington, Poole will join his third NBA team. He made 68 regular-season appearances in 2024-25, averaging 20.5 points, 4.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 3.5 three-pointers in 29.4 minutes. Poole shot 37.8 percent from deep on 9.1 attempts per game, both career-high marks. With the move, the Pelicans roster becomes younger but adds cap space, with Poole set to make $32 million in 2025-26 and $34 million in 2026-27. Poole missed the end of last season due to a right elbow contusion but is expected to be healthy during offseason workouts.
