Top Avalanche News

  • Avalanche's Ross Colton: Suffered groin pull

Colton missed the last six games with a groin pull, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports Tuesday.

Colton was previously ruled out for the first round, so it's not immediately clear if he would have been ready to play in the second round either. During the regular season, the 28-year-old winger notched 16 goals and 13 helpers, missing the 30-point threshold for the first time since 2020-21 when he logged just 30 games as a rookie.

  • Avalanche's Kevin Mandolese: Returned to minors

Mandolese was assigned to AHL Colorado on Sunday.

Mandolese will be an option for the Eagles in the Calder Cup Playoffs, but Trent Miner could remain the team's No. 1 netminder. The 24-year-old Mandolese had a record of 11-6-0 with a 2.87 GAA and a .903 save percentage in 19 AHL appearances during the regular season.

  • Avalanche's Ryan Lindgren: Hands out assist in loss

Lindgren produced an assist in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Stars in Game 7.

Lindgren set up a Nathan MacKinnon tally early in the third period. The helper was Lindgren's third over seven playoff contests, and he added 13 hits, 12 blocked shots and a plus-5 rating in the Avalanche's short postseason run. He was acquired from the Rangers in March, but it's possible the Avalanche viewed the 27-year-old as a pure rental. Lindgren had a career-high 22 points over 72 regular-season outings and will be one of the better shutdown defensemen available in free agency this summer if he makes it to the market.

  • Avalanche's Logan O'Connor: Earns shorthanded helper

O'Connor notched a shorthanded assist and three shots on goal in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Stars in Game 7.

O'Connor made up for a quiet regular season with two goals and four helpers over seven playoff games. The 28-year-old forward did all of that from a bottom-six role without power-play time. O'Connor signed a six-year extension with the Avalanche prior to the start of 2024-25, so he's part of their long-term plans as a reliable defensive depth forward who can move up the lineup when necessary.

  • Avalanche's Valeri Nichushkin: Registers helper in Game 7 loss

Nichushkin notched an assist, four hits and two blocked shots in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Stars in Game 7.

Nichushkin helped out on a Nathan MacKinnon tally early in the third period. Over seven playoff contests, Nichushkin had three goals, one assist, 13 shots on net, 20 hits, four blocked shots and a plus-1 rating. The 30-year-old winger put up 34 points in 43 regular-season outings in 2024-25. Between injuries and suspensions, he hasn't played in more than 65 games in any of the last seven years, but when healthy, he's an excellent complementary forward who figures to be part of Colorado's core for the better part of the rest of the decade.

  • Avalanche's Josh Manson: Nets shortie in loss

Manson scored a shorthanded goal on four shots and added two hits in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Stars in Game 7.

Manson's goal opened the scoring just before the halfway mark of the game. He contributed three points, 18 shots on net, 24 hits, 10 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating over seven playoff contests. Manson missed large chunks of 2024-25 with injuries, amassing 15 points, 65 shots on net, 105 hits and 59 blocked shots over 48 regular-season appearances. He's under contract for next season, so expect the 33-year-old to return to a shutdown role on Colorado's blue line in 2025-26.

  • Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon: Finds twine in loss

MacKinnon scored a goal on six shots in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Stars in Game 7.

MacKinnon scored seven times and added four assists over seven playoff contests, but the NHL's current playoff goals leader will go no further after the Avalanche were eliminated. The 29-year-old will undoubtedly be frustrated with another early exit -- the Avalanche haven't gotten out of the second round since their Stanley Cup title in 2022. He was superb with 32 goals, 116 points, 320 shots on net and a plus-25 rating over 79 regular-season appearances, and fantasy managers wishing to have him on their roster for next year will have to invest an early first-round pick to do that.

  • Avalanche's Mackenzie Blackwood: Falters in Game 7

Blackwood stopped 15 of 18 shots in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Stars in Game 7. The fourth goal was an empty-netter.

The Avalanche went ahead 2-0 early in the third period, but Blackwood couldn't make the lead last. It wasn't all his fault -- two of the three goals he allowed came on Dallas power plays, including Wyatt Johnston's game-winner with 3:56 left in the contest. Blackwood wasn't at his best in a tough first-round matchup, going 3-4 with a 2.71 GAA and an .892 save percentage over seven games. He signed a five-year extension with the Avalanche in December, so he'll be the team's primary netminder heading into 2025-26.

  • Avalanche's Mackenzie Blackwood: Tending twine in Dallas

Blackwood will defend the road net against the Stars on Saturday in Game 7, per Jesse Montano of Guerilla Sports.

Blackwood is coming off a 22-save effort in Thursday's 7-4 win over Dallas in Game 6. He has a 2.65 GAA and an .899 save percentage through six appearances this postseason. Dallas is tied for 11th in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs with 2.83 goals per game.

  • Avalanche's Devon Toews: Assist streak at three games

Toews notched an assist and went plus-3 in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Stars in Game 6.

Toews' assist streak is up to three games after he helped out on a second-period tally by Martin Necas. The 31-year-old Toews has four points, five shots on net, 17 blocked shots, four hits and a plus-3 rating over six playoff outings. He continues to provide a defensive counterweight to Cale Makar on the Avalanche's top pairing.

  • Avalanche's Brock Nelson: Logs pair of assists in Game 6

Nelson registered two assists and two PIM in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Stars in Game 6.

Nelson helped out on both of Valeri Nichushkin's tallies in the contest. This was Nelson's second two-assist game of the series, both of which have come in Denver -- he's been held off the scoresheet in three games in Dallas. The 33-year-old center has four helpers, 11 shots on net, nine hits, nine blocked shots and a plus-3 rating over six playoff outings.

  • Avalanche's Gabriel Landeskog: Dishes pair of assists

Landeskog recorded two assists, four shots on goal, four hits, two blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Stars in Game 6.

Landeskog has two multi-point efforts over four playoff games since he returned from a nearly three-year absence. The winger had a hand in both of Valeri Nichushkin's tallies in this contest. Landeskog has added eight shots on net, 13 hits, three blocked shots and a plus-4 rating so far. He was limited initially but saw 19:36 of ice time in Thursday's win, so it's safe to say he is as healthy as he's going to be at any point this postseason.

... See More ... See Less
  • Avalanche's Josh Manson: Puts away empty-netter

Manson scored an empty-net goal on three shots and added seven hits in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Stars in Game 6.

Manson has been tasked with playing a shutdown role during the postseason, so it's no surprise he hasn't been all that active on offense. He has a goal, an assist, 14 shots on net, 22 hits, nine blocked shots, eight PIM and plus-3 rating over six playoff outings. He's playing in a top-four role, but Manson and Ryan Lindgren are essentially interchangeable in terms of who gets more ice time.
